Overview: Khmer Celestial Hindu Goddess probably that of Lakshmi, beautifully executed in traditional 'Pala' style, she is protrayed standing in a sensual frontal posture on a small lotus plinth. In this context, she can be understood as Shiva's active female manifestation, or Shakti, who rid the world of evil forces. Description: An exqusite bronze female Hindu goddess standing poise with a charming attitude, voluptuous figure well defined with harmonious proportion, breast covered with sheer linen worn diagonally above a bare midriff, complemented by a long Sarong worn low at the hips, and decorated in an elebrate crossweave pattern. She is shown with arms extended with the palm of both hands facing outward, while simultaneously displaying various mudras. The right hand positioned downward in the 'Varada' mudra, the gesture of charity and gift bestowal, while the left hand is pointed upwards in the 'Abhaya' mudra, the gesture of reassurance and fearlessness. xxxx Her facial expression relays a powerful blend of calm and spiritual enlightenment, with almond-shaped down-cast eyes, a prominent nose, wide mouth with an insipid smile, and elongated earlobes draped in elaborate earring pendants.
