THE " WORK SIDE " IS MADE OF MANY MANY LITTLE BENT NAILS PERHAPS WITH THE SHARP EDGES SAWN OFF AND SET IN WHAT LOOKS LIKE PERHAPS 18TH CENTURY HIDE. Additional hide that has been nailed on surrounds the backside of this piece..this leather is more consistent with the 19th century.
