Seller: whitefire7 (1,296) 100%, Location: ROSSENDALE, Lancashire, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 274124045538 THE ITEM FOR SALE IS AN ANCIENTAKKADIAN EMPIRE STONE CIRCULAR BI-FACIAL SEAL BEAD - GENIE & BIRD ca. 3 RD MILLENNIUM B.C.The Gable type stone seal features a winged Genie and Bird with Genie facing left to one side and Bird to the right on the other. The winged deities of this period were known as a genie's. This is a rarer seal type (only seen a handful) as they generally feature snakes birds and quadruped type animals. These genii have all been interpreted as beings known as antediluvian sages or apkallu in Akkadian. They were beings that existed during a godlike generation of humanity. These beings were closely associated with the god Enki. During the antediluvian age humanity was "covered" or more commonly referred to as the great flood, and the inhabitants were purified and roamed the earth as invisible genii. There are also other references to the apkallus as being purified humans that were sent to Apsû, the underground sweet water realm of Enki/Ea by Marduk the ruler god3rd millennium B.C. The iconography of this particular gable seal is quite crude, suggesting that it is possibly an earlier example. The bead is holed horizontally and has a smooth overall patina.Measures - 42.97 cm by 40.38 cm and 10.54 mm thick approx.Weighs 35.2 grams.
