A barrel shaped bead formed of very dark glass, appearing black, decorated at either end with encircling trails of red glass overlaying with a zig-zag trail of white glass. The type is typical of glass from the later Roman period and into the 6th Century AD, and was widespread in Egypt, the Holy Land, Syria, Lebanon and beyond. Very light surface wear. Well preserved texture and color. Wearable. PROVENANCE: Formerly in a Canadian private collection.
