A bead in the shape of a slightly flattened sphete, formed of very dark glass, appearing black, decorated at either end with encircling trails of red glass, overlaid with a zig-zag trail of yellow glass. A large vertical hole for suspension. The type is typical of glass from the later Roman period and into the early Byzantine period, and was widespread in Egypt, the Holy Land, Syria, Lebanon and beyond. This example is typical of Late Roman types. Very light surface wear, with well preserved texture and color.
