The Koban culture is the culture of the tribes of the Central Caucasus during the transitional period from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age (the end of the second millennium B.C). This culture was discovered in the middle of the 19th century. Koban tribes occupied the mountain gorges and valleys of the Central Caucasus foothills on both sides of the Main Range. Koban history can be divided into four stages. Fourteenth and thirteenth centuries BC - The early period, when based on the achievements of the Bronze Age Caucasus, South-Eastern Europe and Asia formed new original culture. Time with respect to 10th to 12th century BC considered the heyday of the Koban culture, when it acquired its classical form. Period 9th to 7th century. BC - The stage of transition from the Bronze to the Iron Age and the beginning of active communication with the Scythians Koban tribes. In late Koban period 6th to the 4th century BC occurred close cooperation Koban tribes and mixing with the Scythians. Koban tribes never lived closed.
