Oscar Bruno Bach (1884-1957) was a noted German American artisan and noted as one of the most talented & successful metalworkers in the US in the first half of the twentieth century.  Born in Germany, he gained fame early for his skilled designs earning the Grand Prize at the World's Exposition in 1911 for a bed he designed for Kaiser Wilhelm. His styles ranged from Gothic, Arts & Crafts, Renaissance, Art Deco & Baroque & other and all striking within their styles as are these cups. He opened a studio in New York with his brother Max by the 1920's and his fame, skills and success continued to grow.  His pieces were featured in numerous expo's, museums and commercial buildings.  He did numerous lighting designs from ceiling to floor, home furnishings of various types and general decor. He did some limited work in silver stemware as with these desert cups, but they are far rarer than other works he mastered.  By the mid 1920's he was highly sought after for his architectural design skills and commissioned for many public and private works from Museums, the Chrysler Building, the Woolworth Building, various churches & other.  Really quite remarkable when you look at his skill in its broad scale. This is a really lovely desert cup set.  We photographed in different light settings, from various angles, etc to try and capture the piece's appeal.  Overall we feel they are in very good to excellent condition, especially giving their age, but you can judge by pictures and use zoom feature if needed. There are no notable dents or deep scratches, just a few minor scuffs and they need a gentle cleaning.  We are selling these, just as we obtained them without attempting to clean or other.   7 cups are marked clearly with Oscar B Bach and STERLING MEXICO.  1 Cup is marked less clearly with Oscar B Bach but not marked Sterling Mexico.  That bottom may have been an earlier model by Oscar or a prototype for these (really) or perhaps the bottom was replaced, but it otherwise looks just like the others.  We took pictures of it's marking in photo gallery. We only found one other set of these cups in existence that have sold years back and we have search sites going back 30 years, so they are rare.  We obtained from a collectors estate of very nice items.  We tried to price these under what few comparative sales we could find but they are scarce.  Some small (non desert) single cups or bowls by Bach have sold from $170-$350 in different styles and a small grouping of Sterling Silver Bach items of less than 1/4 (8.7 oz) the total of the weight of these sold for $350 in 2022, so we are pricing under each respectively if extended out for these as a set of eight.  These cross genres of both antique collectors of fine tableware and the artist Oscar B. Bach as well.  We prefer not to split these up if possible and sell the group of 8 at the one list price. Each Cup had a little different weight as is not uncommon with hand fashioned items. Silver Cups as weighed by scale: Total Weight of 37 Oz (approx: 33.724 Troy Ounces) 1) 4.3 2) 4.4 3) 4.5 4) 4.6 5) 4.7 6) 4.7 7) 4.8 8) 5.0 Let is know if you have questions, see shipping info below.  Buyer must have a 100% rating and ample feedback from eBay.
Please Read: See our Feedback & Buy with confidence.  We ship with extreme care and all items are fully insured!  We often take from 30-90 minutes packing more delicate & odd sized items to make sure your treasure is protected.  We also photograph most items above $100 while packing in case a shipper were to ever damage an item (only one time in over 2,000 US shipped sales).  For this reason, if an item is ever damaged, it will be the Buyer's responsibility to file a claim with the shipping service and we can provide photos from packing to assist Buyers.  The process is not difficult, but the timing of such does not allow adequate time for the item to be returned to us and then for us to proceed with a claim (chain of custody questions can arise as well on returned items due to double shipping and handling so it is just easier for Buyers).  So again, as noted in listing, we do not offer returns.  Sales tax is charged according to your state or country's regulations.  Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through.  We do this often.   Signature confirmation will be required if your item is above $100 so please plan accordingly.  Also, FedEx & Others are beginning to require signature on items above $500-$700.  Last, we have discounts with FedEx & eBay on shipping which do not always show up in eBay estimates on shipping. We try to refund what we can when there is a notable difference, but we do not know until we actually process the shipping order.
