Seller: pennantique (3,698) 97.7%, Location: Scranton, Pennsylvania, Ships to: US, Item: 273707507603 Penn Antique Restoration 36"x84"x1 3/4" Antique French Door w/15 Wavy Glass Lites Handsome, antique, exterior door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern Ohio. The door has a solid oak core covered with 1/8" thick oak veneers. This is a heavy door (~80lbs)! It's painted white on both sides. Please don't think that "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture, these veneers are 1/8" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. The door has a beautiful arrangement of 15, true-divided, old, wavy glass lites. Quirks & Considerations: This door was originally a part of a pair of double doors. I'm not sure what happened to the other door, but the two were separated at some point. The other door had the knob and lock installed, and it was the one that was most frequently used. This was the stationary door in the pair, which was locked in place for most of the time with it's flushbolt (the vertical, sliding door lock). Since it was the stationary door, it was outfitted with an astragal (vertical molding, which sits on the interior side of the door to cover the tiny gap between the doors when both are closed). Assuming that the door will now be used as a single door, it won't need the astragal or the flushbolt any more. If you like, we could remove the astragal molding and fill the flushbolt holes with solid wood--email us for a quote. Hardware: There is no hardware included with the door, but we have a good selection of period hardware in our eBay store, and tons more in our physical store. Condition: The door is strong, sturdy, and in excellent structural condition but does have cosmetic blemishes including nicks, scratches, and small nail holes. However, once the door is sanded for a new coat of paint, or stripped to refinish, most of these blemishes will be removed by sanding. What remains will be covered by paint or stain, and only appear as subtle "character marks." There is a piece of broken veneer along the top of the lock stile on the exterior side (see last photo). We could repair the veneer--email us for a quote. One lite is cracked, but we could replace it with a similar, old, wavy lite for $25. The rest of the lites are intact and in great shape with only subtle scratches. Refinish/Repaint: We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. See the last photos in this auction as an example of our work. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote. Swing: This door is currently set up to swing into the home towards the right. However, we could reverse it to swing into the home towards the left--email us for a quote. Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, make molding, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
