The door has a solid hardwood (possibly birch) core covered with 3/16" thick oak veneers on each side. This is one heavy door, 80 - 100lbs! It has a beautiful arrangement of 12, true-divided glass lites. All of the glass is old and slightly wavy. Please don't think that "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture, these veneers are 3/16" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. The door was originally used as a "swinging door," which meant that it had spring-loaded, pivot hinge installed in its bottom corner, and swung both forward and backward like a saloon style door. The door no longer has its pivot hinges or push plates. However, just because it was used as a swinging door, doesn't mean that you have to. We could cut off the rounded sides and trim the door to 31"W, or we could cut and then add to the sides to make it 32"W or wider. We could also cut the height of the door to just above of the area where the hinge was installed (which would make the door 82"), or if you need the door at 83.5" or taller, we could plug the mortised area and add to it. Look at the last photos of another door that we modified as an example. Hardware: The door is not equipped with hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door (check out our eBay store). * If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote. Condition: A thin strip of veneer is missing from the bottom edge of one side; one of the lites is missing its original molding; the decorative below the glass is missing on one side. We could repair all of these minor issues--email us for a quote. Otherwise, the door is strong and sturdy, and is ready for another lifetime of service. The glass is fully intact and only has subtle scratches here and there; no breaks, cracks, or spalls. Refinish/Repaint: We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. See the last photos in this auction as an example of our work. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote. Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace the glass with a wooden panels or mirror, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
