The American Silver Eagle has been the official silver bullion coin of the United States since it was introduced in 1986. Design of the coin's obverse replicates Adolph A. Weinman's magnificent 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, one of the most recognized and cherished images in U.S. coinage history. The 2015-W American Silver Eagle measures 40.6 mm in diameter, struck at the West Point branch of the U.S. Mint from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver and is counted among a mintage of 707,518 proofs.
Lady Liberty appears on the obverse, gracefully striding toward the sunrise enveloped in the American flag. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2015."
The reverse, by John Mercanti, features an eagle with a striped shield grasping an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," along with the "W" West Point Mint mark.
This 2015-W Proof American Silver Eagle was submitted for grading to the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). For its perfect, full strike and flawless surface condition, the exceptional proof received the highest grade on the Sheldon Scale of Proof 70, along with the additional certification of Deep Cameo (DCAM), which describes the dramatic visual contrast between the mirrored and frosted surfaces.
