Mothra (Japanese: モスラ, Hepburn: Mosura) is a fictional monster, or kaiju, that first appeared in the 1961 film Mothra, produced and distributed by Toho Studios. Mothra has appeared in several Toho tokusatsu films, most often as a recurring character in the Godzilla franchise. She is typically portrayed as a colossal sentient larva (caterpillar) or imago, accompanied by two miniature fairies speaking on her behalf. Unlike other Toho monsters, Mothra is a largely heroic character, having been variously portrayed as a protector of her own island culture, the Earth and Japan. Mothra's design is influenced by silk worms, their imagos, and those of giant silk moths in the family Saturniidae. The character is often depicted hatching offspring (in some cases, twins) when approaching death, a nod to the Saṃsāra doctrine of numerous Indian religions. Mothra is one of Toho's most popular monsters and second only to Godzilla in her total number of film appearances. Polls taken during the early 1990s indicated that Mothra was particularly popular among women who were, at the time, the largest demographic among Japan's movie-going audience, a fact that prompted the filming of 1992's Godzilla vs. Mothra, which was the best-attended Toho film since King Kong vs. Godzilla. IGN listed Mothra as #3 on their "Top 10 Japanese Movie Monsters" list, while Complex listed the character as #7 on its "The 15 Most Badass Kaiju Monsters of All Time" list. Though Mothra is generally portrayed as female, male individuals of her species have also been featured in the franchise, including Mothra Leo in the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy, and a male Mothra larva who appears alongside his non-identical twin in Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. In Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, Mothra is portrayed as having been one of the three guardians of Yamato, originating 1,000 years before the events of the film. Initially an antagonist, Mothra was imprisoned in Lake Ikeda, only to be reawakened in 2001 to halt Godzilla's destruction of Tokyo. She is defeated, but transfers her spirit to King Ghidorah. Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. has the Mothra from the original 1961 film send her priestesses to demand that Japan dismantle the anti-Godzilla weapon Kiryu or face destruction, as she considers the cyborg to be against the natural order, having been created using the bones of the first Godzilla. When the second Godzilla lands, Mothra attempts to fight the monster alongside Kiryu, but is killed in the process. Two larvae hatch on Infant Island and reach Tokyo in order to fight Godzilla, whom they encase in a cocoon, which is then transported into the ocean by Kiryu. Godzilla: Final Wars, which ignores the continuity of the previous film, establishes that Mothra protected the Earth 10,000 years ago from the cyborg Gigan. In the distant future, Gigan returns, under the control of the Xiliens, and is confronted by Mothra. In the ensuing battle, Mothra catches fire, but manages to kill Gigan by ramming into it and exploding.[43] However, in a mid-credits scene, Mothra is shown to be alive after all and flying back to Infant Island to be reunited with the Shobijin. Bio Rainbow Mothra, also known as Rainbow Leona, is one of two forms that Mothra Leona is able to switch between upon acquiring Ghogo's life force energy. She retains Leona's personality. Aside from her physical differences, she's received a power boost that gives her powerful new energy attacks. Mothra Leona acquired this form in 1997 during the battle against Dagahra when Ghogo gave its lifeforce to her to heal her wounded body. The energy she received not only rejuvenated, but gave her a permanent power boost that altered the mana flowing throughout her body. Leona used this form for some of the battle, but primarily fought Dagahra in her Aqua Form. Upon Dagahra's death, she remained in this form for the rest of her life. In 1998, she fought Razin, but wasn't strong enough to defeat him. With the only way to do so being the use of the three Gigamass Locking Mechanisms, she was sent back in time to retrieve the Sword of Hope during the first battle with the Gigamass kaiju some time around 75,000 years ago before it disappeared from history. Rainbow Mothra fought alongside her and Battra's ancestors to defeat the Gigamass kaiju, then helped subdue Battra to prevent him from exterminating the Elias after the battle concluded. Once she had the Sword of Hope, she traveled back to 1998 and helped defeat Razin for good. Rainbow Leona lived a peaceful life on Infant Island until 2003 when she was summoned to Tokyo by the grandson of Shin’ichi Chujo to help defend the city from Godzilla (III) until Kiryu could be deployed. In her old age, Leona was unable to hold her own against Godzilla for long and was forced out of the fight moments before Kiryu arrived. Leona, who wanted the bones of Godzilla (I) that rested inside of Kiryu to be returned to the sea where they belonged, flew towards Godzilla to help him destroy the mecha once she recovered, but the Monster King thought that she was coming to attack him and killed her with a powerful blast of his Atomic Ray. Upon her death, the mana and Ghogo's life force energy that she received years ago dissipated into the ground and returned to the Earth's spirit. 2002 Pack of Destruction Godzilla Pack of Destruction 2002 Godzilla Figure 2002 1954 Godzilla Figure 2002 Godzilla Figure 2002 Godzilla action figure 2002 1954 Godzilla Action Figure 2002 Godzilla Bandai figure 2002 1954 Godzilla Bandai figure 2002 mini Godzilla Figure 2002 mini  1954 Godzilla figure 2002 Pack of Destruction Godzilla figure 2002 Pack of Destruction  1954 Godzilla figure 2002 Pack of Destruction Godzilla Mini Figure 2002 Pack of Destruction  1954 Godzilla mini figure Bandai Godzilla Bandai 1954 Godzilla Godzilla mini figure 1954 Godzilla Mini Figure Godzilla Pack of Destruction figure Godzilla Pack of Destruction 1954 Godzilla Godzilla pack of Destruction Godzilla Godzilla Pack of Destruction Godzilla figure Godzilla Pack of Destruction 1954 Godzilla figure Godzilla Figure 1954 Godzilla Figure Mini 1954 Godzilla  Figure Mini Godzilla Figure
