  • Description: A beautiful fine or better banknote from Portugal. This is the 28 January 1941 twenty Escudos. The banknote has a green and purple design over a multi-colored underprint. The front has the portrait of D. Antonio Luiz de Menezes to the right framed in an oval. The back is also green on multi-colored underprint with the Bank of Portugal arms in the center. the note has two signatures on the front as well as the denomination, date and serial number. This particular note has the serial number AKQ01430, which is displayed twice on the front of the note but not on the back. The back also displays the denomination but not the serial number. The banknote has a water mark depicting the bust of a man. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.

  • Printer: Bank of Portugal.
  • Size: The banknote measures ~5 1/4" by ~3".
  • Pick Number: P 153a.
  • Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good fine or better with all the details being still preserved. This is an attractive note showing evidence of handling and wear. It has several of folds both vertically and horizontally as well as some general wrinkling. The note's paper has general soiling which darkens the note and makes the colors a bit dull, but they are still there. The paper itself is still relatively stiff and not completely floppy. The note has no tears or splits but the edges do show slight wear. The corners also show wear but not full rounding instead they show some creasing and folding, but are essentially intact. The corners also show remnants of glue from when it was taped from the corners to be mounted possibly in an album or such. The note has no pinholes, no graffiti, and no appreciable staining.
