Seller: modlampguy (1,154) 100%, Location: Deep in the Heart of Texas, Ships to: US, Item: 120710408885 MID-CENTURY TREASURE TROVE Late 1950's. The “Atomic Age". Man on the moon. Starburst clocks. Television becoming popular across America. The first TVs had a curved glass front. The surface caused a glare from any conventional lamp. Also, there was the Folk Wisdom that one would go blind from watching TV without a light on. Thus was born a generation of "TV" lamps. These lamps typically had low voltage, shielded bulbs pointing up, to create a glow. They created an ambience that caught on quickly. Every home in the US had some variety of "TV" lamp. The Teak wood used in the original tripod legs of these lamps was a nod to the Teak elements of the Danish lamps of the 1950’s. The first style was the “Beehive” shape. The beehive shape was made initially in three colors, white, aqua, and orange. OWN ALL THREE NOW!!! Enjoy the Ambience of these wonderful lamps, and own a wonderful piece of history. A matching pair is SO MUCH better than one. Ask any interior designer!!! As the pictures show, one of the things that is WAY COOL about the White Beehive, is that you can use COLORED bulbs in them for a variety of effects. The METAL bases on these are in good vintage condition for their age, with some slight tarnishing, but it does not take away from their appeal. Please remember that these are NOT intended as a light source, but rather as ambience. Only LOW WATTAGE bulbs should be used. I do not recommend anything over a 40 watt. Please check my other auctions, and check back periodically, as we will be adding many auctions of wonderful Mid-Century lamps, clocks, and other items. Mod Lamp Guy has assembled the more common Tripod Atomic lamps, but also we have the MOST RARE ones made, which we will also be listing. Please add us to your FAVORITE SELLERS list. Thanks and good luck! Please NOTE: The original chrome or brass plating on the bases of Atomic Tripod lamps was rather thin in it's original condition. Also, many owners left them on their patios. Mod Lamp has divided our inventory into two categories: 1.) The metal bases that are in Pristine Vintage original condition along wiht those have a bit of tarnish, but acceptable for presentation, 2.) The bases that had too much tarnish or rust. In this category, Mod Lamp has made them BETTER THAN ORIGINAL. We stripped the old finish down to bare metal, and had them Professionally Plated with either Brass or Chrome, and sealed with multiples coats of Lacquer. This is a much better plating quality than th eoriginal finish. They still have NO place outside, but they look FANTASTIC !!! Ready to bring Another 50 years of Joy and Light into someone's life! We did this because we LOVE THESE LAMPS!!! We will let you know in each ATOMIC TRIPOD auction whether it is a base in Good Vintage condition, Great Vintage condition, or ones that have been completely Restored to BETTER than ORIGINAL condition. This is a vintage item. Lamps are in good working order, but as with ALL vintage items, the electrical should be examined carefully prior to use. Please pay within 5 days of sale's end. No international shipping on this auction. Only actual postage wil be charged, any overages will be refunded. A $2 shipping Insurance fee will be added. Please stay tuned for many more lamps and Mid-Century treasures in the weeks and days to come.
