It also "became known as the father of the hotel industry in Hawaii" and has been noted as such with, The Honolulu Advertiser. Interestingly, in 1917 the United States Army occupied the second floor while Fort Shafter was being completed. Further, the interwar years saw the hotel's Roof Garden become one of Honolulu's most fashionable social venues. And before being converted to offices in 1964...
