Seller: sophiedesmar2012 (1,220) 100%, Location: East Killingly, Connecticut, Ships to: US, Item: 183356490376 C. 1860-1870s ANTIQUE numbered & signed ("No. 8014 4x4" & signed/incised with a "KITE" hallmark) AMERICAN AESTHETIC MOVEMENT/ERA GRECO-EGYPTIAN REVIVALIST EASTLAKE FOLIATE MOTIF BROWN & BROTHERS, WATERBURY-CONNECTICUT (2) HALF HINGES. After continued and extensive research I have found information that leads me to strongly believe these 1/2 hinges are attributable to the "Brown & Brothers Company" of Waterbury, Connecticut, a company who had used designs from the British and had adopted their 'diamond shape' registration hallmark with numbers in relief & letters to date a metal piece-the "I" in the circle above the diamond shape refers to a metal object (British also had similar hallmarks for pottery, glass, and ceramics). This piece dates between 1860-1870s as after 1880s they used only an "Rd" mark with a number sequencing without the diamond form (see hallmark). This mark could also be from a British Company and not Brown & Brothers, I have seen this reg. 'kite' mark on their brass and metal products and this I believe may be one of their designs which they had adopted from the British-hence the reg. mark. The Brown & Bros. Co. had been in operation between 1851-1886 and were a brass/metal foundry and casting mill in Waterbury-Conn., they were makers of cast and compression metal products, as well as German silver and copper cast/compression goods. C. 1860-1870s Antique Compression cast hardware-either cast iron or bronze material-unsure of exact material-see pics provided to ascertain material used. There are 2 half hinges which each is half of an original hinge (see pics), there are two 1/2 hinges-reclaimed and being sold for parts-see pics. Each hinge includes one flat door hinge plate and one steeple rod which is shaped uniquely like a 'fire hydrant' which is very lovely and unique-see pics of this feature in close-ups provided. Please use your own knowledge to discern company of origin and see all signatures/hallmarks at back of each hinge. These hinges are also numbered incised as "No. 8014 4x4" (see close-up pics provided). Wonderful, architectural, and deeply incised Eastlake Foliate Motif Greco-Egyptian designs of flowers and leaves and geometric umbrella flower shape in center area (see pics). Black ground against the bronzed finish looks great. Each measures approx. in total 5.5" long x 2.5" wide, the plate section itself measures approx. 2.25" (across to rod), the rod itself measures approx. 5" long from tip to end. The hinges are in excellent condition, unsure if the hinge rectangular plate is supposed to move/rotate on the rod or not-they do not move and may need oil, have not polished-I cleaned them with a natural organic olive oil only, have a 'bronzed' finish on surfaces which is original and finish has faded over time and is worn-see pics, the hinge material is either bronze or iron-I am unsure of the material itself-please use your own research and knowledge to determine material of piece, the finish is a 'bronzed' finish (see pics), no deep gouges or deep scratches, pieces have expected wear, are not bent, no cracks or chips, no water damage or rust, clean & unsoiled.
