SHIPWRECK TREASURE COIN In 1809 a monstrous storm sank The Admiral Gardner off the coast of England. 176 years later, this coin was recovered from her hull. The Cargo containing this 1808 East India Company X Cash coin was bound for India, intended to be used to pay workers in Madras and Bengal. She sank with sight of the British shore, where, from a place of safety Englishmen watched seven men go down with The Admiral Gardner. Although the general location of the sunken ship was well known, The Gardner was not salvaged for 176 years because of the treacherous current and weather conditions and the fact that there was little, if any, gold on the ship. Year: 1808
