Seller: kkj1314 (260) 100%, Location: Raleigh, North Carolina, Ships to: US, Item: 113958556976 This is an antique, quack medicine bottle embossed, "Dr. Hayden's Uric Solvent" from the 1800s. The aqua blue remedy bottle is handblown, with mold line up to the neck of the cork topped bottle. My father, an avid bottle digger, found the vintage bottle more than 40 years ago in the ruins of an old southern plantation in Virginia. The bottle is in great shape, free from breaks or cracks with the exception of a small scar inside the bottom (see photo closeup). Clarity is nice for a dug bottle although there are mineral deposits and age related bubbles. The vintage remedy bottle measures about 7.5" tall and 2.75" wide. Dr. William Hayden, an M.D., graduated from a New York City medical school in 1845. He became president of the New York Pharmaceutical Company whose products included the Uric Solvent and Hayden's Viburnum Compound. Hayden moved his business to Bedford Springs, MA in 1867 and died there around 1905. Hayden believed kidney malfunction resulted in an excess of Uric Acid. He thought that uric acid acted as a "conductility of the nerves" leading to Diabetes, Dropsy, Gout, Angina, Rheumatism, Heart Disease, Paralysis, etc. His "Uric Solvent" compound claimed to break up uric acid and cure all of the above. Condition: Used, Modified Item: No, Country/Region of Manufacture: United States, Color: Pale Aqua
