Shipwreck was probably dutch in origin. Spoon is approximately 7 inches long and completely intact but has a small curl to the tip. The spoon has a thick patina consistent to age and being submerged for 400 years in salt water. The artifact has a dusting of white coral growth. It's pretty cool to think some ancient mariner probably used this spoon to take his soup. It is completely stable and has partial maker's mark at base of bowl. Looks to me to have a flower design with what I can see is the letter D. The rest I cannot make out. Similar spoons were found on the famous shipwreck Atocha. Some of the spoons were pewter but were also found in pure silver and gold. Own a piece of maritime history. A time that will never be repeated.
