Blades finely flaked in the Paleo style that are elliptical to plano-Convex in cross section. Lateral edges of most hafting areas and some bases are ground. Some pieces with flutes. All very well patinated and “no brainer authentic.” Opinion / of Related Interest: Offered for sale is an interesting group of 124 authentic old Clovis, Goshen, and Folsom / Midland Culture artifacts surface collected by one man from sites on private property in Northeast Colorado. Most of these pieces are Folsom and Goshen. Some of these artifacts undoubtedly “fit together.” All of these pieces are the result of a bifacial reduction strategy. This means large biface blades were resharpened and over the course of their use life fashioned into different tools. Blades would be made into knives - knives would be made into points - points would be made into scrapers or smaller cutting tools, etc.Goshen Culture (approx. 10,800 - 11,000 years before present) and the Folsom Culture (10,800 - 10,200 YBP) may be typified by members who lived nomadic lifestyles focused on the hunting and processing of an extinct species of giant bison (megafauna) and gathering from the earth. Simply stated, their lives revolved around the great herds of giant bison that at times blackened the Plains. Goshen transitioned out of Clovis and transitioned into Folsom. The Goshen Culture represents a significant change in life way by Clovis people in the area who decided to target giant bison as their primary source of food. Thinner and lighter points that could be hurled with an atlatl (spearthrower) and penetrate the hides of ancient bison were needed. As a result, the Goshen point was developed and used. Folsom culture took the trend of making very finely flaked thin points even further with development of the Folsom point. Members of the Folsom Culture are known to have been particularly selective in their choice of stone and created some of the most well made and beautiful examples of Stone Age weaponry recovered.
