This is a sword built in the US by respected professionals. There is a story and thought behind it that make it both unique and special among the custom swords out there.

The blade is made by Howard Clark from his L6 steel. It is a wider profile with a suguha hamon characteristic of Howards work. L6 (particularly from Howard) tends to be very resilient and durable steel.

Fittings were produced by Patrick Hastings. Patrick was more active a decade or so ago but he was and likely still is a very talented fittings maker. He did impeccable work on these fittings and the tsuba features some very intricate work.

The polish was done by Josiah Boomershine. Josiah is talented at too many things. He can do everything Japanese sword related and is my go to polisher. He made this sword smooth as glass and put a keen edge on it.

The mount was done by the Man in Black. He is responsible for the artistic execution of the sword mount. I provided the blade and fittings, he did all the rest. Including hand carving the mushroom decorations.

There is a poem written for the sword. A hand written cared with this will be included with the sword.

Food for thought,

Only death awaits.

Bending reality,

To see the face.

This is in reference to the various types of mushrooms seen throughout the sword.  Edible mushrooms are present in both psychedelic and non.  Deadly and jovial mushrooms also make an appearance.  The syle of the sword is uncommon.  Nuske or small sculptures are set into the scabbard.

Dynamics:

Shy of 3lb this sword is not heavy or light. It fits solidly into the middleweight or medium/heavy weight of most modern custom swords. I find that it feels light enough to use for practice but substantial enough that it feels like it will do a bit of the work in cutting tatami (if that is your aim). If you follow the idea of having one sword then this one is not so heavy that you could not use it regularly for training. The balance is comfortable but it is not light. Likewise it would not cut like a dedicated lawn mower but still hold its own in a competition. It has a feeling of athroaty in the hand that makes me smile. It is suitable for any sword task and pretty enough to just be an art piece.

Condition:

The condition of the sword is new but there are imperfections present. It is impossible to get anything just perfect so be aware that there are very minor blemishes in the polish. It has not been used to cut sense the fresh polish was done but in the right light you may spot a few very small scuffs. The saya also may have some minor scuffs in the right light. Ito and fittings also have some very minor blemishes. All of these are what I would consider very small but this is a very pricy sword and some will expect perfection at a microscopic level. Unfortunately that is not the case here but most folks will struggle to find flaws. If you want closer detail, then please ask and I will provide photos.

Returns:

Note that no returns are accepted. To many people want to buy a nice sword then return it. Apart from the waste of time, they often come back used and a fresh polish is over $1k. To much risk is involved so I do not accept returns. Ask any questions you have prior to purchase. I will be happy to give you any information I can to help make a good decision with your money but once you click "buy" there are no returns.
