Seller: estate-finds-r-us (1,921) 100%, Location: Tucson, Arizona, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 303014045537 Description: Extremely rare is this Fabulous Museum Quality Ancient Egypt, Old Egyptian Beaded Necklace of King Tut with Fine Sterling Silver Setting, with Various Beads Including Ethnic Middle Eastern Granulation Silver Beads, Faience, Brass, Yellow Glass and Amber Beads! Silver was tested and turned a bright blood red = .999 Fine Silver. Marked on the back in black with some kind of ink or stain is: "A÷" which is most likely an old collection mark. Bust Pendant: The amulet bust, has what appears to be a hard black stone inside, that seems to be more marbled at the bottom. It has been carved into a bust of a Pharaoh, that looks most like King Tut Tutankhamun. He appears to have been covered in some sort of steatite, pottery or faience which shows wear in several areas. This bust is held into place by fine silver bands around his headpiece and a framed-in pocket. It is then surrounded with delicate strands of hand made fine sterling silver (tested 925) and adorned above with a banner of fine sterling silver filigree. This fantastic King Tut Amulet Necklace, strung on some kind of twine, with ancient faience disc beads, (high-quality blue, black, cream, turquoise and green), as well as baltic amber beads, yellow glass beads, brassy copper beads, knobby fine Etruscan sterling silver beads and spacers, and a brown bead that I have not been able to determine the composition. Both the amber beads, and the yellow glass beads show fluorescence when placed under a UV light, which true baltic amber does, and the yellow beads, must contain uranium oxide. The twine, which still seems sturdy, has a very old coppery/brass c-clasp closure. Generally the original twine in these old necklaces, which held the beads together decomposed, and somewhere along the way, these were re-strung. Faience beads: These commonly used colorful beads were individually crafted in ancient times out of clay-like faience. Faience, was made of ground quartz mixed with a colorant that was heated and molded to imitate more expensive natural stones. This normally plain-colored material turned vibrant shades of yellow, green, turquoise, red, brown, auburn, orange, and blue when fired. The most popular color was a blue-green imitation turquoise. Measurements: Necklace measures approx 20 1/4" long, with two (2) 17" strands of beads. The bust measures 2 1/4" long x 2 5/8 across the top x 2 1/8" across the bottom.Weight: 61.9 grams Condition: In good original condition, with rubbing and chipping on the amulet, old dried glue residue in the silver pocketed frame and a chip out of the bottom corner of the bust.
