Glazed Porcelain

Crested China, also known as Heraldic China or Crested Ware, are small glazed porcelain ornaments, made in the United Kingdom, from the mid-19th century to the beginning of WWII.  They were sold in the seaside towns, to tourists and visitors as souvenirs, small pieces of china that carried the heraldic crest or coat-of-arms of the town.  Beginning with figurines of everyday objects, busts of famous people, local museum antiquities or everyday items like pitchers, tankards, teapots, baskets, kettles, dogs and cats, the tiny replicas were immensely popular with visitors.  The outbreak of World War I brought about new designs with a war-based theme that included weapons, ammunition, grenades, ships, planes and tanks among others. The range of military subjects was large, with the accuracy of depiction less important than the appeal of the piece; in fact, some “crests” were created by the pottery artists of the companies that produced them such as Carlton, Arcadian, Shelley, Goss, Swan, Willow Art and Grafton, the majority of which were clustered around Stoke-on-Trent in England.

CONDITION: We are very gentle with our treasures, we treat them like gold.  We love each and every one of them but we try to recognize and acknowledge their faults: a snag, a pull, a tear, a patch, a ding, a dent, some wear, something missing, something not quite right.  But occasionally we might miss a little flaw, and perhaps it doesn’t really show in a photograph.  Sometimes we forget to disclose it or get something wrong in the description.  This is not deliberate, just human error.  Forgive us, we want you to love your new treasure as much as we do.  So let us know if you're less than happy with your purchase, and we'll work it out.

SHIPPING:  All pieces are shipped, upon receipt of payment, via USPS Parcel Select Ground unless another shipping method is preferred.  Please contact us for faster delivery options and charges.  If free shipping is offered, it applies to US domestic destinations only. Package dimensions are estimated based on the actual size of the item.  Shipping can be combined. As this affects the final shipping costs please wait until we invoice you for the correct combined amount.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS:  We use eBay's International Shipping Program under which you pay for the US domestic portion of the postage and eBay bills you separately for the international portion.

PAYMENT:  Please make payment within 5 days of winning bid or purchase.
