This is a Ship's binnacle and compass called a "Sestrel" and made by Henry Browne & Son. It is 20" tall and the base is 7 1/2" x 7 1/2". The weight is 12 1/2 pounds (before packaging). I have been told three different stories about what its intended use was. One is that it is a salesmans sample, two is that it was a gift for customers, and three that it was made for smaller boats. One of the oil lanterns has been removed and replaced with an electic light bulb, it is wired down under the compass, through the base and out the bottom. The light works and does a good job lighting up the compass area, the removed oil lantern is not included. The compass is gimball mounted and swivels nicely. The compass has an air bubble in it and a white deposit of some sort on the inside of the glass. The wood base is in great shape as is the brass.
I shaped a styrofoam cooler around the compass part of the binnacle in order to package it securely for shipping. This is a big heavy item, so if you provide me with your zipcode before bidding I can possibly give you a lower shipping quote.
Payment is due within 3 days at end of auction. I am flexible, but please let me know right after the auction ends if you need more time. I accept paypal, anyone paying differently please contact me before bidding. Refunds only if I grossly misrepresent item up for auction. That being said, if I mess up I will make it right. I always ship within 3 days of receipt of payment, but usually ship the next day. I combine shipping whenever possible. I quote freight from Tacoma WA and add a dollar for delivery confirmation. If it is a heavy item and you are close to Tacoma you can contact me before bidding with your zip code and I will try to give a lower shipping quote. Shipping price is for the US only all other buyers please email for shipping price. If you win an auction and need to contact me for any reason please do so through Ebay and not to the email address you get from Paypal, or I might not see it for several days.
