Seller: guidca (239) 100%, Location: Oakland, California, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 122237235705 These solid brass push plates are vintage hardware harvested from a beautiful 1926 elementary school in Oakland California, most of which is being torn down September/October 2016. This pair of massive solid brass push plates were installed on the elementary school kitchen swinging door, probably in 1926. The kitchen operated from 1926 until the 1970s when the kitchen/cafeteria was moved to another, “temporary” building. From then on the kitchen was used rarely, mostly for PTA events. Very heavy, solid brass – the plate that faced the auditorium is solid brass, the plate that faced the kitchen is solid brass with chrome plating. Dimensions of each plate is an identical 4” by 16”. There is some paint residue on the edges of the plates. I've polished them a bit with Simichrome Polish, but didn't fuss removing all of the paint residue - I wonder how many times the school kitchen was painted in 90 years???. The chrome plate is like a mirror. Although there is a key hole in the plates, there was no lock installed on the swinging door these were mounted on. The brass plate weighs 33.3 ounces; the chrome-plated brass plate weighs 33.8 ounces. Together the two plates weigh over four pounds! Note: Nothing to fail with these - they will easily last another 100 years. No returns accepted. Condition: Some staining and residual paint from having been installed in a school cafeteria for 90 years, but should polish up nicely., Color: Brass, Maker: Sargent, Material: Solid brass, and chrome-plated solid brass
