This is a pretty elegant vase. It has a nice shape and is decorated with lovely songbird and gold accents.
Handsome Songbird motif. Numerous vessels by Alfred Stellmacher, Teplitz Austria 1859-94, are decorated with song bird themes in polychrome and in this style. Most noted pair of Song Birds by Stellmacher In Kodner Auction Catalogue .
Cat # 41
Size: Vase measures 8" high X 6" X 4"
Condition: The pitcher is in very good condition. No chips, dings or nicks. Hand painted work shows no signs of wear. This vase has no other apparent cracks or crazing.
This vessel is a round basket shape with very decorative art nouveau handle . The top rim is decorated with large dimensional gold trimmed reticulated circles with turquoise colored ceramicjewel centers. Colors on this white cream vase are gold oriental floral with a large songbird in muted blue, green and grey colors on one side. The back side is mostly sold cream color with a smaller songbird.
Maker: Provenance The vessel was sold to me ten years ago as a Turn Teplitz vase. The vase had no maker mark - other than embossed number 794 and underneath is a label "Fred Stellmacher Turn Teplitz" handwritten. The seller misspelled his label on bottom and probably was not aware of Amphora pottery. I never looked under his had written label, but he told me there was no maker mark. I am not certain but I believe it to be by Alfred Stellmacher. See photo of a similar Stellmacher songbird.
Alfred Stellmacher, the father of Amphora, between 1876 and 1893 established himself as the foremost manufacturer of decorative ceramics in Turn-Teplitz.
This beautiful vase is hand painted in such a pretty design , attractive handle and gold is effectively used for highlighted accents throughout the design. A handsome one for your collection.
