Vintage 1920s Wood Tobacco Stand IDEAL Smoker Humidor Pipe Smoking Cabinet
With a diagonal mounted handle and nicely turned uprights this smart little smoker has real charm. It still has the original label, so it can be identified as an Ideal Smoker No. 427 manufactured by Metal Stamping Corporation* of Streator, Illinois in about 1926.
Overall dimensions are about 31”height x 10-1/8”width x 9-1/8”depth. It weighs about 6 pounds 6 ounces.
Perhaps at one time there was a copper liner to the humidor cabinet, but all that remains is the faintest tobacco aroma still retained in the wood. The door snaps nicely into place and someone years ago installed a small nail in the top which serves as a door stop.
This stand shows some normal wear for its age and in particular, the two turned uprights holding the top handle have been repaired (check the first two supersized photos). One of the metal studs on the top for holding the ash tray in place is missing and there is some discoloration there, as well as what might be a small burn mark. The bottom shelf has a chip and a few scuffs & nicks there and on the legs. Please check all photos carefully, and let me know if you want more. The ashtray pictured is not included.
*The Metal Stamping Corporation operated from 1913 to the 1960s producing folding card tables, hand carpet sweepers, folding music stands, and other metal and wood specialties.
