History on the Ulster 63

"BALLOON WHITTLER'S JACK KNIFE"

1950's

Vintage Ulster USA #63 Balloon Whittlers Jack Knife, it's 3-5/8" Closed. The #63 Balloon Whittlers Jack Knife also features Kon Kav Ground Main Blade and Solid Brass Liners with the Ulster Script Oval Shield on the front handle, I personally believe this Ulster #63 Whittler's Jack knife to be from the 1959 era.

This pattern was also made as an SFO (Special Factory Order) for Sears and Roebuck as the 9529 Balloon Whittler and Schrade Walden had the same pattern in an Model #863, prior to 1931 it was the C8633-3/4. Camillus also had a similar pattern which was the #72, Camillus Cutlery utilized a Long Match Strike Pull on the main blade. There are 2 Variations of this pattern when it comes to blade placement, with the Coping Blade, the Pattern with Small Clip and Coping Blade being together predates the post 1941 Ulster #63 Whittlers Jack knife Pattern with the Coping blade and main blade together. Interestingly enough when Sears and Roebuck first advertised this Balloon Whittler it was the First time the Craftsman name is believed to have appeared on a Craftsman knife.

IT HAS A REALLY GREAT HISTORY

Another interesting fact is that is that Albert Baer Owned the Ulster Knife Co. and the Schrade Walden, Camillus Cutlery, Imperial Knife Co., and Empire Knife at this time in history.

THIS IS A

SCHRADE WALDEN CUTLERY CO.

MADE

ULSTER #63 WHITTLER'S KNIFE

Dwight Divine was killed in an automobile accident in 1933 and afterwards some years later the Dwight Devine's Heirs sold out to Albert Baer and The Schrade Brothers in 1941 and it's not 100% clear whether or not the Sons of Dwight Devine used the Dwight Divine & Sons Tang Stamp after his death but in the Original Agreement The Schrade Brothers and Albert Were forbid from continuing it and Ulster Knife USA was born.
