Seller: muddy-feet (2,290) 100%, Location: West Malling, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 112193681684 Above: worked flat head For sale, from the top drawer of my personal fieldwalking collection, is this superb highly stylised Venus figurine. This classic looking Lalinde-Gönnersdorf venus figurine has been made on a naturally occurring fossilised coral flint nodule. It has undergone very simple working to the head and the feet. The head is flat and has been created by two flake removals. The feet area has the same flat appearance, created by a single flake removal. It has such remarkable similarities to the Continental Lalinde types of Venuses found throughout Northern Europe. Britain 14,000 years ago was still a peninsular of Continental Europe, migrating animals were probably followed and hunted by the nomadic peoples of Europe. It is possible that these nomadic people rested in North Kent, perhaps to replenish their flint tool kits after following and hunting such animals as horse and reindeer. Whilst in the process of sourcing and making flint tools, they also came across these naturally occurring female looking flint nodules. It is possible that these small portable flint nodules became a prized item for the hunter gatherers. They were then taken back to their open air camps and rock shelters in the East. These figure like nodules were then reproduced on workable material such as bone, antler, sandstone and jet, only Venuses found in Wylczse, Poland are are also made on flint and are of plaquette types. Here is a link with further information on the subject, the link is the fantastic DonsMaps website. http://donsmaps.com/couze.html c 15,000 years before present Late Upper Palaeolithic, Magdalenian Found Northfleet, Kent. Height: 100 mm Width: 25-50 mm Thickness: 20 mm Weight: 98.3 grams As I have personally found each artefact in my collection, I am able to offer a money back guarantee of authenticity. The area where this nodule figurine was found has been subjected to a great deal of construction activity. This includes road and railway building, it is likely that it was disturbed through these activities, it was found in spoil from these worked sites. Provenance details is supplied with each of my artefacts. _gsrx_vers_779 (GS 7.0.4 (779)) Type: Figurine, Provenance: Provenance details supplied, Material: Flint, Colour: Natural
