UNUSUAL MINIATURE VINTAGE RCA WOOD CONSOLE WORKING TV SET (10.5 in. tall-1960s?)
This is one of the most unusual and unique TV sets that I have ever seen. I recently purchased it at an estate sale and it is a vintage RCA television set in a nice, ornate wooden cabinet which looks just like a miniature version of the large consoles that they used to make in the 1960s (I don’t know what the model no. is for the set). I believe that this TV set is from the late 1960s (it is black and white) but am not sure and will leave this to you TV experts out there. It has a number of vacuum tubes in it but I was told that it might be a “hybrid” set which contains both tubes and transistors. Again, I don’t really know for certain and will also leave this to the TV experts. It is really an attractive little set and has an incredible and distinctive appearance! I’ve never seen a wood-cabinet TV set this small!
About the size of the TV set, the picture tube measures approx. 9 inches diagonally. Likewise, the TV set is approximately 10.5 inches tall (not including the antenna), approximately 15.25 inches wide, and approximately 10 inches deep (not including the cord and cord-holder clips). All in all, it is quite a small TV set ! To get an idea of the small size of the TV set, check out the photo of the set next to a modern flat-screen TV and a lamp (lamp and flat-screen TV not included in this auction!)
Cosmetically, it is in really nice condition in my view and please check out the many photos that I have provided (if they all don’t load at first, just click “refresh” and they should then load). The sides are beautiful and take a look at the detailed “carved” design in the wood on the sides! The wood cabinet has some scratches, scrapes, nicks, dings, veneer chips, etc. most of which are too small to be picked up by the camera. The top looks a little darker than the rest of the set and the top may or may not have been refinished and/or touched up by its former owner at some time in the past - I don’t have any idea. There are also some scratches, nicks, etc. on the speaker grille and on the knobs but they likewise look good in my opinion (I have provided a close-up view of them for your consideration). I do know that, in my opinion, this TV set looks really good and, again, check out all of the photos that I have provided. The antenna pulls out and pushes back in (see the photo that I have provided of it) and is a little hard to push back in in certain places (it is also kind of hard to rotate) but again looks pretty good in my view. In addition, it is not entirely straight in certain spots but, again, I think that it looks good for its age (see the photo). The plastic back also looks good in my view although it has some scratches, nicks, scrapes, dings, and “lines” (for example, adjacent the areas where the mounting screws pass through) which may or may not be hairline cracks or just marks made during plastic-molding, I can’t tell for sure. Anyway, however, it again looks good in my view, especially for its age.
I very briefly hooked the set up to a digital converter (it is an analog set) and got a good picture as you can see in the photo of the set which I took while it was playing. The sound also works, too. I did notice some hum in the sound (this might be normal – I don’t know for sure) and the picture would sometimes shrink a little on the bottom and would sometimes “roll” a little which I adjusted with the vertical hold control (this might be a reception issue since I just used the “pole” antenna and didn’t hook it up to cable, satellite, or anything like that). I also noticed that I sometimes had to wiggle the channel knob to get a picture to come in clearly so the tuner or something else inside (as well as some of all of the other controls) might need cleaning, etc. – I don’t know for sure and will leave this to the buyer. Anyway, it does work but, since it is a vintage item (probably more than 40 years old), the buyer should assume that it is going to need at least some work, repairs, parts, tubes, etc. I did not try the set on UHF and do not know if this works or not (there is no UHF antenna with the set). Also, while I plan on packing this item very carefully (I have an excellent shipping track record – check it out), I cannot guarantee that the set will play upon arrival due to the fact that it is a vintage item and may possibly be handled roughly during shipment. Likewise, I only had the TV set on for a very short period of time and do not know if it will work properly (or work at all) for longer time periods.
In summary this is a really cool-looking vintage TV set which must have been made in only limited numbers. It would make a fantastic addition to any vintage TV collection (or to a collection of vintage 1960s items), especially in this condition!
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU BID: Regarding the TV set being sold in this auction, this is an estate sale item and I honestly don’t know anything about how it works, whether it is working properly, whether its internal wiring is correct, whether its internal components and tubes are good, and whether it is complete. I have not done anything to this TV set and its parts, power cord, wires, tubes, and all of its other components and know nothing about their condition. It may have been worked on by someone else in the past, but I don’t know whether this is true or not.
Since this TV set is a vintage estate sale item, the buyer of this TV set should therefore assume that it is going to need some work, parts, wires, power cord, tubes, etc. (I do not know how much work, parts, wires, power cord, tubes, etc. would be needed to get everything operating properly in the TV set and will leave this up to the buyer). I know nothing more about this TV set and, accordingly, all of the items in this auction (the TV set and all of its parts, power cord, wires, tubes, and all of its other components) are being sold for non-operational display and/or parts purposes only with no guarantees or warranties of any kind.
This TV set will be shipped UPS or USPS at my choice. Please note that, if the final shipping cost is more than the amount quoted above, I will pay the difference and if it is less than the quoted amount, I will keep the difference. I am an excellent packer and shipper. Check out my 100% positive feedback and the wonderful compliments that I have received about my packing and shipping. Once this TV set receives its first bid, it will be packed up for shipping so please ask any questions as early as possible.
I did not inspect, repair, or work on the TV set being sold in this auction and the buyer will receive it in the same exact condition that it was in when I purchased it at the estate sale. It is therefore important and necessary that this TV set (along with all of its parts, power cord, wires, tubes, and all of its other components) be examined thoroughly by a TV repair expert inside and out before this TV set is plugged in, tested, worked on, powered up, and/or used. Any repairs to the TV set being sold in this auction (and all of its parts, power cord, wires, tubes, and all of its other components) and any removal of the back of this TV set should only be attempted by a TV repair expert. Furthermore, all of the tubes should be checked out by a TV repair expert to see if they are good, are the correct ones, are in the correct sockets, if the sockets are good, etc. before the TV set is plugged in, tested, used, etc. As stated above, the buyer of this TV set should again assume that it will need work, parts, tubes, power cord, internal components, etc.
The TV set being sold in this auction (and all of its parts, power cord, wires, tubes, and all of its other components) are being sold as is with no warranties express or implied. Likewise, I have no idea whether everything is original or not in this TV set and therefore cannot make any warranties regarding originality. I also do not warrant that this TV set is complete and do not know if there are any missing parts, components, etc. Thus, I cannot warrant completeness of the TV set being sold in this auction. This TV set involves a piece of used vintage electrical equipment which needs restoration and is being sold for non-operational display purposes and/or parts only. No returns or refunds, and seller is not responsible for any damages or injuries of any kind resulting from the use, repair, operation, inspection, and/or testing of the TV set being sold in this auction and all of its parts, power cord, wires, tubes, and all of its other components. Buyer uses, repairs, operates, inspects, and/or tests the TV set being sold in this auction and all of its parts, power cord, wires, tubes, and all of its other components at his or her own risk. The colors of the items being sold in this auction as they appear in the photos may differ compared with the actual items due to the lighting which existed when the photos were taken.
If you have any questions, please ask before you bid and we will be happy to respond to the best of our ability. Payment within 2 days of end of auction. Also, and this is important, should shipping damage occur, the filing of the insurance claim will be the buyer’s responsibility.
