Vayrynenite is one of the rarest of collector's gem materials - it is a rare phosphate mineral that is only very infrequently found in gem quality. There is only some very sporadic production of this gem in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. One of the great attractions of the species is the superb color - a bright orange-pink hue that immediately brings to mind the 'padparadscha' description used for sapphire. This lovely example is from the Shigar Valley of Pakistan, it a very nicely done step cut square. Very nice clarity for the species and of course that excellent color. Fine Vayrynenite is always sought after and good examples are often missing from gem collections. Beautiful stone.
This gem is completely natural and untreated. Vayrynenite has a hardness of 5 on the Moh's scale and is primarily a collector's gem.
