This is a rare antique one pan balance scale, originally acquired in the Netherlands, passed down from one generation to the next. This piece was passed down to our family in the mid 60's and it was used for some years as a hanging decorative piece to feature a potted plant. The pan is stamped on the inside bottom "Fener no 85053", plus additional stamped numbers "73, 75, 76" which we do not know what meaning they represent. We were told that his scale was initially used in outdoor markets to weigh fish. The scale has been carefully wrapped and box stored indoors since the late 70's.
This scale balance is in excellent condition for age, fully working with just the normal wear from many years of use.
The specifications are as follows: length of hanging chains are 16" each, arm of balance is 17" long, single pan is 12"" in diameter and counter weight is 2 3/4" long x 2" in diameter. The brass scale was made strong, weighing almost 5 lbs.
