The highly detailed work of Louise Kenyon is as synonymous to the Folly Cove Designers as Virginia Lee Demetrios' "Spring Lambs" and "Gossips" or Eino Natti's "Gloucester."  "Head of the Cove" is widely recognized as one of Mrs. Kenyon's most popular designs as well as one of her earliest.  She was also the mastermind behind, "Marblehead," "Smith College," "Thirty-four Cows," "Up Country Meet" and "Chestnut Street" among dozens of others.   According to the book, Trailblazing Women Printmakers by Elena M. Sarni, "Head of the Cove;"  "depicts her neighborhood in Annisquam, the title referencing Lobster Cove, which was nearby.  Louise printed it onto wall cloth for her home's two-story entryway.  It features Louise's house, her older son doing yard work at Peggy Norton's house, her youngest son chasing chickens, her husband rowing, her parents on their way to church, and herself in the garden." Kenyon carved the block twice and it was further produced by F. Schumacher and Lord & Taylor.  Louise Kenyon's sister Grace often fringed placemats for Louise as well as other the designers.   Long before Mrs. Kenyon joined the newly formed Folly Cove Designers she was carving linoleum blocks for her own artistic enjoyment and professional development as a student of design.  What I find so wonderful about her work is how she uses the little vignettes throughout the space - every inch of which she utilizes - to tell numerous stories that are personal and meaningful to she and her family.  Her prints are both intellectually stimulating and heartwarming.  Condition: Ink is still stiff, cotton itself is thicker than the typical FCD placemat lending a more substantial weight and the fringe is thick.  The ink is visibly darker on left side than right, rectangle-like rust stains in border (see photos) which disappeared with matting/framed, a few extremely light stains on the reverse that do not show through to the front.  There are two very small dots although one may be blue ink.  A small length of the fringe is yellowing.   Measurements: with border and fringe; 36 inches long, 13.5 inches 33 inches by 11 inches without border and fringe. Ships via UPS Ground.  Any overages in shipping cost will be returned to you.
