LR-1 Silent Night
This project is made up of 8 small designs.
Leaflet includes the pattern to make the Christmas stocking, the sampler and ideas for pulling the different designs out to make separately.

LR-3 Friends
Two friends sit together on the high desert mesa. This project is done in bright colors depicting a typical southwest sunset. The leaflet also includes a border design shown stitched on towels and a mug.

LR-4 Vision Quest
This buffalo skull is adorned with feathers. The “white buffalo” on the forehead symbolizes a “vision quest.” To personalize this design it may be embellished with turquoise nuggets and fetishes.

LR-6 Welcome
Adobe homes adorned with ristras of dried red chilies are a sign of “Welcome” and a picturesque image of a visit to New Mexico.

LR-8 Wind Dancer
Gracefully soaring on the wind, he goes beyond the horizon, experiencing the highs and lows in the freedom of the sky seeing things that we can only imagine.
This design complements our other design called “Silent Bear.”

LR-9 Hototo, Bear Kachina
This design is very detailed. This kachina represents the bear and is revered as a guard or protector of his people. He is depicted here distributing gifts to the children at a bean dance.

LR-11 Deer Kachina
This very detailed Kachina represents the deer and is one of the most revered.
He holds the power over rain which is essential in the semiarid Southwest.
Here, he is giving gifts to the guardian spirits in hopes of receiving in exchange, favorable weather for good harvests. Watch for the hidden deer!

LR-15 Sacred Ni-ai, White Buffalo
White buffalo are believed to be “good medicine” and are considered spiritual. The legend of the “white buffalo” is the most powerful story in the Lakota religion. Many versions exist, but the theme is the same, involving bravery, long-suffering, generosity, honesty and respect for all things in creation.
Feathers adorned with red leather and beads were often offered in ceremonies and rituals honoring the white buffalo spirit.
This design is a special tribute to the recent births of “white buffalo.”

LR-16 Storyteller
Until recently many pueblos did not have a written language, so the legends of the people were passed from generation to generation by telling stories. The clay storyteller figures are made with great care seated with their mouth open and eyes closed. In this design the storyteller is telling 3 stories of the past.
Turtle represents the legend of how people came to earth, Kokopelli represents the story of the humpback flute player and coyote represents the story of how the stars were put in the night sky.

LR-17 Heart of the Dragonfly
Native Americans living in the Southwest before the Spanish arrived used a decorative symbol that had two cross-bars and an extended vertical line forming a cross. This symbol represented the dragonfly who brought summer rains allowing their crops to grow allowing the native people to exist.
The leaflet includes the legend of the “Heart of the Dragonfly.”
