Seller: rodrogrs (758) 100%, Location: Merrick, New York, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 122215889780 Here is an exemplary Mezcala carved cultural jade human figure of abstract form. Skillfully albeit minimally carved, this timeless sculpture is geometric and abstract, yet instantly recognizable as a direct and powerful representation of a human figure unencumbered by extraneous details. This speckled-green metadiorite figure, unmounted, is 2 5/8” (69mm) tall x 1 1/8” (30mm) wide x .5” (12mm) with a highly polished surface; small fragment of left foot lost in antiquity and in excellent overall condition. A custom display stand is included in this sale at no additional cost. This museum-grade figure conforms to the shape, style and characteristics of Type M-16 of Carlo Gay's classification. Although impeded with primitive tools, Mezcala artisans created highly stylized stone figures, as is clearly evident in this museum-grade anthropomorphic example. Green stones used by pre-Columbian lapidaries other than nephrite or jadeite are characterized as "cultural jade."
