Seller: rodrogrs (759) 100%, Location: New York, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 122215535748 Here is an extremely rare example of pre-Columbian “Art-Brut;” a large and ancient standingfemale figure detailed with appliqué anatomical features and ornamentation. This dramatic (and very heavy) twenty-five hundred year-old solid baked orange clay figure possesses an overall grayish-brown patina and hardened soil accretions; a mute albeit eloquent testimony to prolonged subsoil interment. 9.5 (24.3 cm) inches tall, 5.5 inches (14 cm) wide, 3 3/8 inches (8.5 cm) front-to-back, 4.5 lbs. (2.04 kilos) Without repair or restoration; losses in antiquity are as pictured. A limited number of these highly anomalous figures -- invariably female -- have been recovered from several Guerrero villages that lie in close proximity to one another including Xalitla, Huitzuco, Tlaxmalac and Iguala. These vigorous effigies are the most expressionistic and powerful of pre-Columbian anthropomorphic ceramics; a desirable "must have" exemplar for the discerning collector, dealer or curator.
