Here is an extraordinary scene representing a chieftain (casique) seated within a six-pointed base
and inside an arched enclosure next to an umbrella with pellets surrounding the rim and a small dog
resting at his feet. The "umbrella" may be a greatly enlarged and stylized hallucinogenic fungus
and there are areas of cream-painted decoration on the figure, umbrella, enclosure and dog.
This rare and remarkable scene is 3.75" (9.5 cm) H. x 4.25" (10.5 cm) W. x 4.5" (11.5 cm)
with scattered manganese deposits providing mute albeit eloquent testimony to prolonged subsoil interment.
Without repairs or restoration, this museum-quality work of pre-Columbian art is in excellent condition.

This seller has been a conscientious collector and dedicated scholar of New World antiquities for over a half-century. He has complied with UNESCO, federal/local legislation and never consciously acquired, traded in or sold illicitly recovered antiquities. CAVEAT EMPTOR: The prospective buyer is advised to acquire New World antiquities ONLY from reputable Pre-Columbian Art specialists and pay a legitimate price for authentic antiquities with legal provenance and bona-fide guarantees of authenticity. Keep in mind that a “Certificate of Authenticity” is only as valid as the issuer’s credentials and expertise. Unrealistically low prices for forgeries, reproductions, illegal or misattributed artifacts offered by uninformed or venal vendors are ultimately not bargains at all.
