Seller: rodrogrs (758) 100%, Location: Merrick, New York, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 122240546877 Pre-Columbian Chancay Bichrome Cuchimilco Female Figure Here is an outstanding “Cuchimilco” female figure with upraised arms, a posture reminiscent of the Old World "orant" figures. This charming, hollow effigy was modeled with a small vent-hole under each arm. She wears a tight-fitting skullcap, circular earspools, and a small bird in profile has been carefully painted on each cheek. Between her eyes, a triangle enclosing a line-and-dot design ornaments her nose bridge and brown paint delineates various other facial features. A wide sash decorated with intricate geometric designs encircle her waist; although her limbs and torso are covered with brown paint, the color may represent body-painting rather than garb, as the vulva and inguinal areas are clearly discernible. 8.5” (21.6 cm) x 5.5” (14 cm) x 2 5/8” (6 cm.) Details are painted in brown-on cream. Insignificantly abraded surfaces, but without repairs or restoration, this delightful figure is in excellent overall condition.
