Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) Lightning Flower (also called Mikado or Flower and Bud) 3 Sides Up Threaded, Stippled, and Scalloped Green Glass Bowl Approximately 7.5" (D) x 2" (H ) Made and Signed on Interior Center with the "Underlined N in a Circle" Trademark by the Harry C. Northwood Glass Company Wheeling, West Virginia ca 1908 Approximately 7.5 inches wide by 2 inches high, this striking Harry Northwood Glass Company of Wheeling, West Virginia green glass creation displays the "Lightning Flower " exterior design (sometimes called "Mikado " or "Flower & Bud ") with a stippled background encircled by seven concentric threads. The jagged flower stem contributed to the aka "Lightning Flower." The center of the bowl features a sunflower or daisy-like sun ray pattern in dark green. The entire pattern is on the exterior of the bowl yet it's presence is strong when looking at the interior. which is smooth, save for the Northwood trademark. A "goofus" version of this Northwood pattern is pictured on page 41 of Harry Northwood: The Wheeling Years 1901-1925 by William Heacock, James Measell, and Berry Wiggins, 1991, Marietta, OH: Antique Publications. The Northwood trademark, the underlined N in a circle, is on the bottom inside of the bowl. The trademark is difficult to see on glass such as this but with the proper light reflections, one can see it (and it can be felt). This piece is in very good/excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There are, of course, the usual small air bubbles, straw marks (shearing tool marks), and other manufacturing marks associated with the hand manufacturing of old EAPG, carnival, and opalescent glass.
