Seller: biloximike2010 (2,030) 100% Top-Rated Plus, Location: Springfield, Missouri, Ships to: US, Item: 232156072056 This is a very old Mystery Sword. It is about 24 1/2" overall length. The blade is about 19 1/2" long and 1" wide. Handle is about 5" long. This sword was obtained in an estate buy. The previous owners traveled a lot over 50 years and obtained this sword about 30 years ago. On both sides of the blade from the tip about 13" down are what appears to be 4 crosses. Below that it says Vivat Panfur? Below that is what appears to be an oriental man standing on a platform or book holding a sword. Below that right against the hilt guard are more symbols or writing. See last picture. After talking with a lot of people who know about swords and looking on line, the best I can determine is this may be a Pandour Sword. They were a group of irregular soldiers serving the Hapsburgs about 1730-1750. I have no idea what the handle is made of. Please note that there is a chunk missing from it. I appears it may be bone or antler or something similar. The edge of the blade has some chips along the edge. The cross guard is missing what ever held it tight against the blade. Please ask if you have any questions or have someplace I can look on the sword to give you more information. Provenance: Ownership History Not Available
