Length 4.5 in., Height 6.5 in., Depth 4.25 in. Provenance: Ex Richard and Edith Dunlap Collection Excavation site: Hacienda San Jacinto (near Chimbote) Peru, Moche, c. 100 – 800 AD. This crisply molded red ware vessel is 6.5" high, slip painted buff remnants, some burnishing, fired with some sporadic areas of flash causing black-gray marks. Decorated effigy of a dignitary, featured on one side is a male figure ornamented. The figure is molded in high relief and draped across half of the vessel; opposite side is smooth and bulbous. Great example, with highly burnished slip and good mineral deposits. Condition: Trace mineral deposits on vessel, the vessel chamber is intact, nose is chipped, the spout has been restored (contemporary repair; appears that four fragments were assembled with like earthen material).
