Seller: sipe-2014 ✉️ (4,664) 100%, Location: Washington, Indiana, US, Ships to: US, Item: 111629063263 Military Tow Rope & OD -1 1/2" double braid nylon w/ loop ends heavy duty large. Up for bids is a US Military surplus tow rope.  These are identical to the other tow ropes we sell but these do not have a chain attached.  The best part about the absence of the chain is they are much lighter and easier to handle.   They weigh about 12.5 pounds without the chain versus 27.5 pounds with it.  You can always loop a chain through the eye.  It won't hurt it.  It looks like it will cut it in two but it won't.  We've pulled them so hard like this that the loop is mashed tight against each other and never had a failure.  These were used as one leg of a four leg helicopter lifting sling.  Each one of these legs have a rated lift capacity of 6250 pounds.  The capacity for a rolling pull would be much greater than 6250 pounds.  We have used these for just about anything we used to use a chain for.  From pulling vehicles out of mud to lifting buildings with a backhoe bucket to pulling cut tops out of the woods.  They will take an unbelievable amount of punishment and not break or fray.  They are great for an 'easy jerk' as they stretch slowly until getting taught.  They don't rattle your teeth like jerking with a chain does.  They are lightweight but strong.  They won't wear you out carrying them.   That weight means a lot when you hit 50 or so. Both ends are looped and one end has a chain attachment on it.  I always take the open loop end and just slide it over my hitch ball.  Oh so nice!  They fit loosely but rarely fall off.   Have never had a problem doing this either. No crawling on the ground trying to put that heavy chain up over the frame.  I bought several of these a few years ago and have sold a few here locally and I've never heard of one breaking.   Here's how it measures up: Rope length:      12 FT (When taught) Rope diameter:"  1 1/2 Inches  Weight:                12 1/2 Lbs There is no damage whatsoever to this outfit.   No cuts or frays in the rope, no cracks in the rubber loop ends, or any other type of damage.   The worst things That I have seen on them is rusty colored 'dents' in the rope from having a rusty chain lay on it.  Any that look bad won't be sold, that is certain.  You don't want a bad one and I don't want an unhappy customer nor do I want to pay to ship it back. The loops are molded together within some kind of hard rubber/epoxy.  You could cut it with a hacksaw but it would probably take half a day.   This rubber/epoxy is solid, not just dipped in like the commercial ropes sold here on EBay.  You can run chain or cable through these looped eyes and it will not hurt them.  They will not pull apart.  . The rope is the good double weave, high quality stuff that is lightweight and coils easily.    If you know anything about how and what the government buys then you know they only buy the very best. Shipping is calculated using your location.   This item will ship within two business days maximum of our receipt of your payment.  It will be shipped in a poly sandbag. If you don't like this item after you receive it, send it back within two weeks and I'll give you your money back.  You have to pay to send it back though. I will guarantee it against failure for 30 days from the time you receive it, no-hassles. --  All bids are appreciated and thanks for looking. On Mar-23-15 at 02:27:43 PDT, seller added the following information:

A sling is constructed from large diameter high tensile strength synthetic cordage with hand woven eyelets. Each lifting eye is first coated with Purecast 603 semi-rigid casting polymer (black). Purecast was chosen for its excellent abrasion resistance on the primary contact points of the sling. Next a rubber (75 shore A) neck of CS 252 (black) is cast around the cord using a two part, mold. The cast in place rubber provides additional abrasion and impact resistance around the eyelet base. All identifying numbers and specification information is cast into the rubber of each eyelet. The potted lifting eyes are constructed by using a 2 sided silicone rubber mold placed around the eyelet. The CS 252 is then mixed and poured into the mold surrounding the cordage, when cured the eyelets are then removed from mold.  Nylon Rope Assembly. The nylon rope assembly is made from double-braided nylon rope with an eye splice at each end. Cutting and splicing of the rope is carefully controlled to produce an assembly which is approximately 12 feet long. During manufacture, the outer braid is covered with a liquid nylon which, when dry, provides protection against scuffing and shields the rope against ultraviolet radiation. This process and other environmental conditions during shipment and storage can result in considerable shrinkage in the rope assembly length. Much of this shrinkage is temporary and the specified length should be restored with use. To ensure proper load distribution, the variation in length of the rope legs used in a sling assembly depends upon the load configuration and should not exceed the guidelines in table 6-2 and paragraph 6-3e. Individual sling leg length is measured from inside of one eye to the inside of the other eye, while being manually pulled taut (figure 6-6). The 10,000-pound capacity sling set has olive drab colored ropes while the 25,000-pound capacity sling set ropes are black. Each sling leg assembly has one-fourth of the capacity of the complete sling set. Therefore, the capacity of one sling leg from a 10,000- and 25,000-pound sling set is 2,500 and 6,250 pounds, respectively. Outer jacket yarns in the olive drab 2,500-pound capacity rope are identified by a braided strand about 3/32 inch in diameter. In the black 6,250-pound capacity rope, yarns are about 1/8 inch in diameter. An additional polyurethane coated outer braid is used as a thimble at each eye splice to protect the nylon rope from cuts or abrasion. Polyurethane is also potted into the V-shaped portion of the eye splice to prevent sand or other material from entering and damaging the rope fibers. The part number, NSN, manufacture date, and capacity of the individual legs are embossed on one side of this cone-shaped potting. The part number and NSN of the complete sling set is embossed on the other side of the potted area. .
