Seller: 654aac (2,139) 100%, Location: S.Cambridgeshire, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 262737020905 Prehistoric / Mesolithic (circa 8,000 years old) PIERCING TOOL / AWL A useful little hand tool struck from a flint core. 3 sided hole piercing tool with a sharp point at both ends, the tool has been struck cleanly from its' core with little or no need for re-touching of the points and edges which are still very sharp. The tool would have been used for making holes in hides for lacing up clothing and tents and in wood & bone working.The usual bulb of compression and stress ripples show on the surface to indicate that this is a man-made implement and a minimal amount of indirect retouching to some sharp edges can be seen with a decent lens. The tool is about 5 cms in length and weighs just 14 gms. It was found while field walking on a site near the Herts-Beds border From the collection of an amateur archaeologist .
