A cast bronze tubular mace head head with flared rim to socket mouths and bulbous flanged section to the upper end decorated with a series of rounded oval shaped knobs. A piercing on the lower rim for fixing to the (probably) wooden handle. Height 23.1 cms (9.1 ins) Condition: Un-cleaned and with some encrustations but good stable bronze with patches of olive-green patination. Luristan area of Western Persia: Circa 2000 B.C. It is thought that such items may have been mounted on a shaft as a symbol of rank, perhaps derivative from a true weapon of similar form.
