Seller: muddy-feet (2,292) 100%, Location: Kent, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 112218402818 For sale, from my personal fieldwalking collection, is this very large and heavy Acheulian subcordiform hand axe. It has been made on a very thick flint flake and has been bifacially worked. The distal point is robust with some retouches. The lateral edges are thick and very slightly sinuous. The roundedproximal end is also thick and remains cortical for grasping, it feels to have been made for right handed use. It is in museum grade condition with attractive working detail and patination. It is far better in the hand than the photos. Found Northfleet, near Swanscombe, Kent. Acheulian: c 350,0000 - 200,000 years BPE H. heidelbergensis Length: 16 cm Width: 15 cm (max) Thickness: 6 cm Weight: 1,509 grams This tool was found in an area that has seen significant commercial, road and rail building work, it is likely that it was disturbed through construction activity. Each tool is supplied with a finds card stating the following: what it is, where it was found, by whom, date found and a rough date of it’s production. Also included is a google satellite map of the area. As I have personally found each tool in my collection, I am able to offer a money back guarantee of authenticity. The Acheulian period in Britain dates from c350,000 to c200,000 years ago, finds in Britain from this period are rare as subsequent glaciations have swept away most of the remains. There are a few important sites in Britain, one of those being Swanscombe in Kent, this tool was found around a mile from the famous Swanscombe site. _gsrx_vers_779 (GS 7.0.4 (779))
