With out any question, the formost comedian of the American stage, Mr. Jefferson this time became ‘Bob Acres’ better known as ‘Fighting Bob,’ in Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s play entitled ‘The Rivals.’ Mr. Jefferson wore his stage costume and used the props of his role in his sittings for the statue. The actor was pleased with the results of the modeling and told Mr. Rogers that the sculptor and his genius would immoirtalize the character of Bob Acres. Although the part of ‘Bob’ was actualy a light, comic role, Mr. Jefferson appears to be very stern in the statue. If the viewer is not familiar with the play, he might be completely misled by the expression on his face. The group has been restored to its original beauty. Any questions, please email.
