The farmer points with glee at the move which has defeated his opponent, and the visitor remains good natured, but puzzled as to just how he was beaten. The city man’s wife looks on, her child just about to kick one of the kings off the board. One checker has already been lost to the game, unbeknown to the players and is in the possession of the cat. The expression on the farmer’s face, one of simple childish joy at triumph over the rich and cultured city man, is especially well rendered. The chagrin and surprise at defeat show clearly on the city man’s face. Besides revealing the simple New England life story of the times, it presents a happy democracy where the wealthy and the poor, the urban and the rural, meet at intervals on a pleasant footing. This is the second most popular group the Rogers produced. The group has been repainted. Some nicks and chips. Any questions, please email. Buyer pays S/H/I. PAYPAL accepted Other groups available.
