Seller: mmuullee (1,719) 100%, Location: Melville, New York, Ships to: US, Item: 252651067031 POLO Plaster, painted: height 21 inches Signed: John Rogers / New York / 1879 Patented May 6, 1879 Polo had its beginnings in the Western world when a group of British officers in India in 1862 copied it from tribal horsemen and took it back to England. As seen in the group, no knee guards were worn and the flat fez hat had not given way to the helmet of today. Horses legs were bound to support the tendons as current practice. The stance of the horse in full gallop with all four legs off the ground is an artistic and technical accomplishment worthy of recognition. Withdrawn after only nine years it is today one of the rarest of the published groups. The group has been restored to its original condition. It is truly gorgeous. Any questions, please email. PAYPAL accepted. Buyer pays S/H/I.
