Antique engraved map on laid paper shown in the corresponding images. This map, "Carte de la plaine de Troie levee en 1786 et 1787," was excised from Marie-Gabriel-Florent-Auguste de Choiseul-Gouffier's "Voyage pittoresque de la Grèce" (1782-1842).

This folding plate depicts the topography of the region of Troy, and features Alexandria Troas, Kara Dag (Black Mountain), Tenedos, and the Aegean Sea.

The artist is credited as Jean-Denis Barbie, and the cartographer as Louis-Francois Cassas.

Condition / Notes: This map, measuring approximately 26 1/2" x 20", displays some age/wear indications, including light foxing, toning concentrated in the margins and at the extremities, minor chipping, and two small closed tears at the foot

Marie-Gabriel-Florent-Auguste de Choiseul-Gouffier (27 September 1752, Paris - 20 June 1817, Aix-la-Chapelle) was a member of the Académie française and the Choiseul-Gouffier family, French ambassador to the Ottoman Empire from 1784 until the fall of the French monarchy and a scholar of ancient Greece.

Jean-Denis Barbié said Barbié Bocage , born April 28 1760 in Paris and died in that city on 28 December 1825 Is a geographer and French cartographer, Dean of the Faculty of Letters of Paris, member of the Institute.
