HORSES ON U.S. POSTAGE STAMPS (1940-1970)
American postage stamps have always featured famous people and events in our history. One of the most commonly-appearing animals on stamps, however, is the horse. Each one of the following stamps uses the horse as part of its design.
It was not until I began selecting stamps with horses in the designs that I realized how important they were to the building of our nation. These stamps do not always prominently feature horses, but their presence on so many issues, even into the modern era, is testimony to their lasting importance.
These 22 U.S. unmounted (loose) postage stamps, issued from 1940 through 1970, comprise a collection that is truly a tribute to that noble animal. Are you a horse lover, or do you know someone who would treasure these stamps? All are genuine, never used (original gum) and as fresh as the day they were bought at the Post Office up to 71 years ago. Suitable for mounting and framing, they would make a great gift.
