This auction is for a Early vintage Clan Gordon Hunter Recurve bow from the 1950S or early 60s. This bow is marked 50# @ 28" HUNTER, The overall length is 51" tip to tip (unstrung)This is a RIGHT HAND BOW (you hold in your left hand and draw with your Right Hand). The wood riser is a lamination of maple and what looks like Seduah or maybe Butternut ( a light colored hardwood). The limbs have brown glass and tiny tips with white glass overlays and linen micarta reinforcements.
To the best of my knowledge Clan Gordon was a line of bows made by Gordon Plastics of San Diego California . Gordon was a leading manufacturer of fiberglass products for the archery industry and developed the glass lamination called "Bow Tuff" which became the standard of the industry and many of the recurve bows built today employ Bow Tuff glass. Gordon Plastics was purchased by Browning sometime in the early to mid 60s. They made made many of the early Browning recurves under the Gordon Plastics/ Clan Gordon label. Like other Browning Bows and bows influenced by the designs of Harry Drake this bow has three maple veneers in the limb lamination's. The limb tips are absolutely gorgeous and diminutive. The Limbs are very sound and straight with minor stress showing in the fadeout areas. The original decal is 100% intact . I have lightly refinished this bow with a good cleaning , steel wool and sanding prep and a coat of Watco spray lacquer followed with a coat of butchers wax. It looks real good and is ready to hunt. This bow comes with a new velcro arrow rest and strike plate. The string in photos is from an other bow in my collection and is not included in this sale.
